WWOOF is a community of people who believe that sharing a WWOOF experience is a way of learning to live together, despite having different ways of being and living. Reviews are done to help future hosts and WWOOFers to have the best experience, according to each one’s characteristics.
You are invited to…
- provide information that is useful for other WWOOFers in selecting a farm;
- write in a way that supports the principles and objectives of WWOOF;
- be as objective as you can about the conditions during your stay/hosting: learning opportunity, accommodation, food, exchanges with host/WWOOFer;
- show courtesy.
You may …
- write about how you personally felt;
- recount experience.
You may not …
- personally attack, defame, insult, verbally abuse, generalise criticism about any WWOOF members;
- present opinions or beliefs of any WWOOF members other than yourself;
- use profane language (swear words), sexist, abusive, crude or politically offensive language;
- include links to any racist, offensive or pornographic website;
- direct content at one particular person.
If you feel compelled to criticise a WWOOFer or host personally, you must write to the WWOOF administration team. Any review or response written containing such content will be immediately deleted.
Moderator’s decisions are final.

Complaints
It is very important to WWOOF Portugal that all our members are participating with integrity and in the spirit of WWOOF. WWOOF is based on trust and we do rely on our members to report to us of any problems or concerns.
The objective of this procedure is to establish a clear action that WWOOF Portugal takes when receiving a complaint.
WWOOF Portugal does not judge anyone, or their feelings regarding their experiences, and will follow-up on all concerns to make clear if any problems do exist, to offer recommendations as needed, and to verify if the member is appropriate for the WWOOF program.
Sharing and complaining is important and we take it seriously. Help us to promote a better WWOOFing experience!
WWOOFer complaint about a Host
We classify as a complaint all the situations that don’t respect the basic principles of WWOOF (educational experience, provide simple meals, basic accommodation, non-monetary experience), sexual harassment, discrimination in any kind.
Personal disagreement or clash of personalities won’t be taken into consideration.
If you are dealing or have dealt with one of these situations we would like you to use the form below and make a complaint. We may ask you more details about your experience in general and for this situation. Don’t be offended, it will help us to solve the situation.
This will set in motion our complaints procedure which involves confronting the Host with the complaint, offering advice or taking action in an attempt to ensure it doesn’t happen again and that a WWOOFing experience on their farm is a happy one.
If the WWOOFer wishes to, we can guarantee his anonymity.
After analysing the situation, WWOOF Portugal can decide, whether or not it will be considered as a complaint.
On receiving three complaints for any one host within 5 years, the host will be banned from WWOOF and removed from the host list. In case of extreme situations the Host membership can be suspended immediately.
Host complaint about a WWOOFer
We classify as a complaint all the situations that don’t respect the basic principles of WWOOF (motivation in learning and helping), this includes disrespect for the Host or neighbours, stealing, abuse of drugs, sexual harassment, discrimination in any kind, etc.
Personal disagreement or clash of personalities won’t be taken into consideration.
If you are dealing or have dealt with one of these situations we would like you to use the form below and make a complaint. We may ask you more details about your experience in general and for this situation. Don’t be offended, it will help us to solve the situation.
This will set in motion our complaints procedure which involves confronting the WWOOFer with the complaint, and after one week, he/she will be banned from WWOOF in case the complaint is confirmed. In case the behaviour of the WWOOFer can be a threat for other hosts, WWOOF will send an alert to all farms with the physical description, photos and detailed explanation on what happened.
After analysing the situation, WWOOF Portugal can decide, whether or not it will be considered as a complaint.
In the case of a complaint about a WWOOFer not arriving and not giving at least 7 days of prior notification of failure to an agreed visit, the offending WWOOFer may be banned from WWOOF Portugal.
Complaint Form:
Before making a complaint we would ask you to give the matter some thought and decide whether you just wish to comment on some negative aspects of a stay or if the events leading up to your complaint are serious. If you feel that they are serious then the only way to do something about it and to ensure that future WWOOFers or hosts are not put through the same ordeal is to start the procedure by filling out and sending the form below. Please don’t feel intimidated or shy, we take complaints seriously and we do something about them.
Some important information that must be present on a complaint:
- Username ;
- Name of the host farm/WWOOFer and people involved in the problem;
- Dates of your stay;
- Were there more WWOOFers on the farm? If so, please give us their names ;
- General experience;
- Detailed description of what happened;
- Did you manage to talk about the problem?
WWOOF is in effect a contact agency. We supply listings, but do not get involved in the individual interactions between WWOOFers and hosts. These are private agreements. Because of this, WWOOF would never initiate criminal proceedings or report cases to the police. All investigation of this nature should be left to the professionals. However WWOOF would of course assist the police with their inquiries where possible and if inquired by the Police authorities provide all the information we may have about the WWOOFer or Host.
