Our WWOOF Portugal Annual Meeting, diverse program including the WWOOF Producers Market, lunch and dinner together, workshops, sharing about the WWOOF movement, and a good concert at the end of the day.

PROGRAM:
10:00 – 13:00 Welcome and open market

10:30 – 12:30 Workshop 1:

Idanha-a-vida

In this workshop we will introduce “Idanha-a-Vida” in all the areas in which we are developing our project, both in the Socio-cultural area and in the area of ecology and nature conservation.

We will share methods used in ecological restoration, data and results obtained in recent years. A perspective of what was, what is and what the vision for this project and its territory.

11:00 – 12:00 Workshop 2:

“Building yourself a straw bale house”
Laetitia and Yannick, from Quinta Estrela do Sul, will talk about their experience of building their own timber frame and straw bale house in Guarda district.

12:45 – 14:00 Lunch – Delicious food prepared by Idanha-a-vida!


14:00 – 15:00 WWOOF chat, presentation of the Federation of WWOOF, WWOOF Portugal datas and projects. We will hopefully have some time for sharing and questions

15:00 – 16:30 Workshop 3:

Silvopasture and agroforestry, by Laurence, from Keela Yoga Farm

Laurence Manchee is a practitioner and teacher of permaculture. One of the aspects of his farm is sustainable food production. Laurence will talk about his experience with agroforestry and silvopasture in Central Portugal. This is a method of farming that combines crops, trees and animals.

He was a WWOOF volunteer before he bought his own farm and he is now a WWOOF host. He was also on the board of WWOOF Portugal for 3 years.

15:00 – 16:30 Workshop 4:

The Azeite Egitânia Project is a space for reflection on the current situation in dry olive farming in Portugal.

It seeks to find solutions with a territorial impact to stop the abandonment of traditional olive groves, which are going through a period of fragility.

The valorization of regional genetic varieties, as well as the preservation of environmental, cultural and landscape heritage, are his work focus. On this 180ha farm, the production system is approached from the perspective of regenerative agriculture, resulting in high quality Extra Virgin Organic Olive Oil added to an exclusive heritage value.

17:00 – 19:00 Workshop 5:

Composting with Worms, by Pierre, from Revolução das Minhocas

We will learn how to transform organic waste from the kitchen, garden, animals (and even the toilets) into high-quality fertilizers, using composting worms.

We will see how to care of the worms, keep the worm farm free of smells and flies, and take advantage of solid and liquid bio-fertilizers.

Finally, we will discover how to build a worm farm (or vermicomposter) with reused materials.

17:00 – 19:00 Workshop 6:

Seed saving on your own farm by Els Wijnstra, responsible for Base Seeds, Sementes Vivas


Would you like to produce seeds of some of the crops you plant on your farm? Then come to this workshop to choose what crops to start with, how to select the best plants and how to process the seeds.


19:00 – 21:00 Dinner – More delicious food prepared by Idanha-a-vida and some Natural Wine from Aline of Menina d’Uva


21:00 – 23:00

Portuguese folk dances and music with Não És Tu Sou Eu
Trio dedicated to the reinterpretation of traditional Portuguese music in a dance context. The repertoire is the result of research into a vast collection of songbooks of traditional Portuguese music.

We therefore propose a New Portuguese Dance, valuing and making known the choreographic styles associated with the national repertoire.
